::About the Manga:
Characters
Setting
Wayfairer came about, well, because
I like pirates and manga, and I knew a couple of characters who deserved to be
one and be in the other.
I had drawn a little six page
doujinshi before. It had gone down well and I was happy with most of the art,
so I thought I'd try for something bigger. Something that could be sustained
though more than two chapters.
My lead characters were easy to
place.
Saku always was and will always be
the pirating type. She's crass and loud, loves to drink far more often than she
should and can always be distracted by something shiny. Her creator,
Starkiller, is one of the most imaginative people I've met, and it makes her
characters so wonderful to draw and write for.
Saku first appeared in
Starkiller's fanfiction, alongside her favourite Dragonball Z character,
Jeice (from the Ginyu Force). I first came across her as the bounty
hunter/mercenary from the RPG "Duel of Fates".
Raffy, is an original character of
mine, whose personality just seems to blend with Saku's really well. From the
first time they ever appeared on paper together it seemed that friendship was
inevitable. Raffy is common sense where Saku lacks it, but more often than not
is too curious to see what would happen to use it.
Raffy was originally conceived as a
character for "Duel of Fates". One of the 'bad guys' in fact. She
was a Sage, whose power lay in her shape changing ability. She was
intended as a love interest for the Rebel Leader, Zarbon. She grew into so
much more.
And Wayfairer is their story - had they even been pirates.
They make good
ones.
